Mercy Store

Good morning friends..

One aspect of The Mercy House that I really love is the fact that the women are taught different skills, including jewellery making, to give them options for income after the graduate from Mercy House.

What’s even cooler is that the items they make are sold online, in the Mercy Store with 25% of the proceeds being deposited into the personal bank account of the lovely lady who made it, to be used after graduation to help establish them in a business of their own! How cool is that?!

Here’s what they say about it:

Mercy House artists are young, creative girls who love to learn. They are fast and hard workers and take a lot of pride in each item they make. As a part of our sustainable skills program, our residents of the maternity home, learn various skills and earn 25% from each item that is sold to help them start a business or further their education once they graduate from the program.

Check out the paper heart ornament – my favourite!

..and a promo clip..

Perfect for birthday gifts!

So, it’s always fun and inspiring to talk about little, achievable action steps we can do each day, towards a better world. What are your ideas? What steps do you take to help others in need? Please share so we can all be inspired by you!

Here are mine for the day..

  1. Share the YouTube promo clip for the store on facebook, twitter, via email.. wherever!
  2. Make your own coffee this week and donate the money saved (click here to securely donate – fully tax deductible).
  3. Buy a gift for your favourite person this week at Mercy Store – show them how much you love and appreciate them + support the work of the precious women at The Mercy House!

By the way, The Mercy House is on Twitter and Facebook too : )

Bye for now and have a great day!

PS – don’t forget to share your action ideas!!

What is The Sunflower Effect?

The aim is to raise $1000 to support The Mercy House Kenya who  cares for women and their babies whose lives are endangered. I don’t want to (and can’t!) do it alone. I want to do it with you – the readers – if you’re keen and agree with me; that other mums deserve just as much opportunity as we do.

What’s with the name?

The project is called The Sunflower Effect. The idea behind this is two-fold:

Sunflower: flower of the sun (latin translation)

The Butterfly Effect: where a small change at one place can result in large differences to a later state.

The idea behind The Sunflower Effect is that we can all do something to help – big things and small things. If we put all our actions together, we will cause a re-action or, a butterfly effect.

We all live under the same sun, the mums in Kenya struggling to survive and raise children, us over here in Australia.. we are all connected.

How’s it going to work?

No matter how small (or big!).. every donation will allow Mercy House Kenya to help women and their babies. If we all give the bit we can afford, together we can make a large donation to help the people at Mercy House Kenya do what we can’t do right now. The Sunflower Effect is signed up at Razoo (kinda like the EverydayHero site). You can donate at Razoo by clicking here and the money will go directly to Mercy House while we watch the $1000 target get closer and closer!

Thanks for your support!
