Day 21: Protecting Your Church

Nothing on earth is more valuable to God than His church.

Most of all, let love guide your life, for then the whole church will stay together in perfect harmony. Colossians 3:14

As members of the body of Christ (the church), it’s our job to protect it. The Purpose Driven Life offers these tips: Continue reading

Every (1 SLAVE) Matters

With political unrest and violence rife in Greece right now, the Human Trafficking industry is soaring. The A21 Campaign tweeted just this morning: “Terrorist bombing in Greece near the A21 offices yesterday — Economic crisis/instability r fuel 4 Human Trafficking.”

Greece is one of the world’s major Human Trafficking hotspots and things are heating up fast. WE MUST PRAY!

Tragically, 99% of slaves are never rescued. Please pray that even though they may not be physically rescued during their time on this earth, their souls will be whisked up and held tightly for Eternity by He who loves them and knows them individually. Continue reading

Hear Their Stories, Tell Their Stories

There are some pretty bad things going on in the world. Really bad things. It’s always hard seeing people go through such hardship but some things particularly stir my heart. My heart stirs, my eyes overflow and my mind goes into overdrive. What can I do to help? Surely there’s something I can do.

It’s during these moments that I must remind myself that God WILL use me to help a dying world and that He’s already told me how to begin. Raise awareness. Raise awareness? Write a blog. Tell your friends. Help raise money. Tweet about it. It seems like such a small, unimportant role. Especially when it’s difficult to drive traffic to your blog, many people don’t want to hear about it and money purses are tightly clamped shut. But that’s what He’s asked me to do so that’s what I’m gonna do. Continue reading

Day 19: Cultivating Community

Ooh.. these chapters are meaty – I love it! We’ve learned about the church family and its importance, now we’re finding out how to cultivate fellowship.

I love good fellowship. Hanging out with friends, asking honest questions, giving honest answers. It’s fun, encouraging and edifying. It always feels good to know that people love you, despite your flaws. True relationship is hard to build but so worth it.

This is what Rick Warren says about it in The Purpose Driven Life:

If you’re tired of fake fellowship and you would like to cultivate real fellowship and a loving community in your small group, Sunday school class, and church, you’ll need to make some tough choices and take some risks. Continue reading

Day 17: A Place to Belong

You are members of God’s very own family, citizens of God’s country, and you belong in God’s household with every other Christian. Ephesians 2:19b

It’s important that we become melded in to a local Church. The Church is God’s family, His earthly body. If we’re not part of His church, we’re not part of His earthly body. It’s got nothing to do with salvation, but everything to do with purpose and fellowship. We’re all in this together. That includes Christianity. Continue reading

Day 16: What Matters Most

No matter what I say, what I believe, and what I do, I’m bankrupt without love. 1 Corinthians 13:3b

I was amused to see that today’s chapter is about love and relationships. Relationships have been taking a pounding around our family lately… friends leaving husbands, others contemplating doing so and others still, booking in for marriage counselling after years of arguing to no end.

Having been there for many years at one (very long) stage in our marriage, I feel deeply for all these friends. I have an underlying sadness that cannot be shifted, no matter how much I try to support them, no matter how much I pray for them. Continue reading
